he season has come to an end. The bees were busy until the 1st week of November and were actively foraging and bringing in nectar and pollen from late flowering ivy. I managed to feed the bees during September/October with some syrup to top up their stores and make sure that the hives have enough food to see them through the Winter. If it’s a warm Winter they will probably need some additional feed as they tend to get through the stores more quickly than when the weather is very cold. So I’ll look to give them some fondant if they need it from January onwards.

I’ve managed to get the honey that I extracted in September jarred up, see the photos for some of the finished products that I’ll be looking to sell over the next few months. I’m pleased with how the Christmas themed labels look and hope that people like them. I’ve also made up some soft set honey using the Dyce process and am really pleased with how it’s turned out – soft, creamy and delicious – spreads nicely straight out of the jar onto some toast!
